Setting out on a culinary quest, I decided to introduce my toddler to the delightful flavors of Maharashtra through a specially crafted bento box. This endeavor was not just about preparing food; it was about reimagining our rich culinary heritage in a way that would captivate and satisfy my little one’s curiosity and taste buds.
The Dishes:
Puran Poli - A Gentle Sweetness: This traditional Maharashtrian sweet bread, usually bursting with jaggery and lentil flavors, was subtly modified to be softer and less sweet, making it perfect for a toddler’s delicate palate.
Metkut Bhat - Nutritious Meets Fun: A wholesome blend of grains and spices, Metkut Bhat was transformed into charming little modaks. These bite-sized delights were not just nutritious but also visually appealing to my young one.
Amti - Mildly Spiced Tradition: The quintessential Maharashtrian lentil curry, Amti, was recreated with a milder spice mix. It served as a nutritious and flavorful complement to the bento box, completing the meal with a touch of tradition.
